To my pleasant surprise, this exhibition was extrordinary. As you can imagine, we've been hearing a lot about it and past Christo works on the news here. I was a bit skeptical about it at first. Is is really art? Seeing it made me a believer. Is it great art? I don't know, but it was fun. Really great light-hearted fun. And it was more than a crazy whim on the part of the artist. The orange against the bleak grey trees and dormant foliage was perfect. This would not have worked any other time but in the grey of winter.
Another thing that impressed me is that the Christo and Jeanne-Claude paid for this entire project out of their own pocket. Not a dime of taxpayer or sponsorship money went toward the project. From what I read, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, New York City residents, have been trying to put this together for about 25 years but have been rebuffed by the city. But Mayor Bloomberg is a personal friend so when he was elected, he made it happen. Christo sells drawings of the project to raise the money needed for the project. Regardless of what one thinks of the artwork, they should be honored for their generousity.
I'm sure you know how big Central Park is. The *entire* park was done up with these orange gates. From 59th St. all the way up to Harlem and from east to west. Yes, extrordinary indeed.
Take a look at pictures of the trip Ruth and I took to Iceland and Norway.
We toured Scotland in May of 2002
Heaven on earth in Lincolnville, Maine.
And, while we're at it, a few more of Norton Pond in Lincolnville..
Peggy Lee could communicate more with one raised eyebrow than most singers could communicate at all. Iván Santiago researched the lady like no one else. Using BRIAN, Iván created a complete discography and we put it on the web. Take a look and tell him what you think.
I compiled a Frank Sinatra discography using information gathered from cd liner notes and other common sources. This discography is really a sessionography because the information for studio sessions is complete, but the information regarding the various record releases if very incomplete. I compiled this information not because there was a dearth of information on Frank Sinatra, but because I needed to test my BRIAN software. Once I successfully completed the test, I felt it would be wasteful not to share what information I had in the BRIAN format. So, here it is…
I compiled a Tony Bennett discography using information given to me by Will Friedwald. Much of the information is derived from his digging through the files at Columbia. Of course, BRIAN was used...
These are all the records and cds I have in my collection that I've entered in my Beyond Category database. Got a question about one of these albums? I will be glad to send you a detailed listing of the entry as it appears on my database
